Confessions of a lipstick whore.

"I  believe in manicures.
I believe in overdressing.
I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick.
 I believe in pink.
I believe happiest girls are the prettiest girls."

Funny story. I first fell in love with lipstick at the age of 4.

Blame it on my mom and my aunt, they gave me one of those
old fashioned cookie tins filled with old lipsticks. I distinctly remember if I got in trouble I got a lipstick taken away.
Like a dagger to the heart! Anyways....

I love love love lipstick. Anyone who knows me knows how deep it goes. Who cares about having a boyfriend or wishing on a shooting star for a perfect life and a million dollars. I truly believe in the magic of lipstick and the ability to swipe on a touch of color and watch the real magic transform before your eyes. No need to have the perfect cupids' bow, the fullest pout or a megawatt smile. Lipstick sees no gender, age, ethnicity or shape.

Lets talk about the beauty of a red lip. There will be many more stories of my love for lipstick, but the holy grail is a perfect red lipstick. Forget the rules about skin tone, personal style etc, etc. If you feel beautiful and love the color you have on, OWN IT! I've made the mistake of making my eyes bleed going through magazines and blogs in trying to find the perfect color. WHO CARES! A classic red lip can be glossy, it can be matte, it can be sheer, it can be bold, it can be a whisper. It is whatever you want it to be. I have many loves of red lipsticks, firstly, M.A.C. in Ruby Woo; a bright, blue based matte red that I can never tire of. Le rouge, a blood orange, satiny finish by YSL is another gorgeous color to brighten me up. Right now however, I am obsessing over Elizabeth Street Cosmetics in "Powell Street."

ESC http://www.elizabethstreetcosmetics.com/ is owned by local native Kelly Crispen, who  believes in the highest quality ingredients and integrity of her products. Every lip is named after a different street in San Francisco (ugh why didn't I think of that?!) Her love for lasting and highly pigmented lipstick really shines through her products. I usually do not wear satin or silkier based lipsticks as I feel like matte is a one swipe deal and does not slip off with my massive talking and coffee-drinking skills. I am impressed by the longevity of the product. I would definitely suggest lining your lips (I use cherry by M.A.C. ) if you are a perfectionist or lipstick newbie. Honestly though, I don't give a shit and I just swipe it on and go on with my day. Sidebar- I love that quote about throwing your hair in a bun, putting on gangsta rap and lipstick and handling it. I am currently listening to Kanye and feeling like a major gangsta babe in my red.

Best of luck in your hunt for your perfect red.

Until next time...xo
