The start of something.

Hi.
I'm Jules, and here it goes.
The truth is I am just a girl who finds beautiful things to be therapeutic. Music, clothes, shoes, food, makeup, candles. All beautiful. There is something so feel-good about the right shade of lipstick, the glow of your favorite candle, and the warmth of a mysterious perfume wrapping you like the comfort of an old blanket.

As I listen to Yann Tiersen and dream of the grey and romantic streets of Paris, I can only wonder how the French have inspired me so in their meticulous yet effortless perfection in the world of beauty. Candles, music, skincare and perfume, there is nothing they haven't mastered when it comes to beauty.

Speaking of perfumes, there is nowhere I would rather start than with my le love of Le Labo. My love affair began a year and a half ago, when I desperately was in search of a fragrance to call mine. I had  been wearing Eau Duelle by Diptyque, a warm, musky vanilla reminiscent of the wonderful feeling you get opening presents on Christmas morning. A beautiful scent: inviting, comfortable, and ever so lovely. That being said; I wanted more. I craved sandalwood, more musk, more danger.

After reading a blog by Taza, I could not forget what she said about a mysterious scent, Santal 33, by Le Labo. Upon entering Barneys in San Francisco, I descended into the beauty department and as fate would have it, front and center, Le Labo. I immediately went straight for Santal, sprayed it on the crook of my left arm and was surprised by my immediate dislike. Harsh, masculine, leather. Those words were all I could think of. I left, disappointed. An hour later however, I could not stop smelling something wonderfully sexy, mysterious, incredible in the air. I turned toward my friend and said, "What is that AMAAAAZING smell?!"

"Uh hello! It's you! Its Santal!"

Flash forward a year and a half later; I wake up excited to spray Santal. I see my custom "Sassy Jules" label which still cracks me up. It is part of me, my ritual, a habit. The other night I met with old friends and one stated, "You smell like you!!" It is the most lovely smell of a smooth, sexy sandalwood that warms up in the Summer days and quiets down in the cooler evenings. It is ever changing; it can surprise me with its sweet brush of violet, or its sharp breath of a smokey wood. Perhaps it reminds me of the brisk redwood coasts in California, or the effortless cool in the streets of Soho. Either way, this fragrance is a game changer for anyone wanting a little more sexy, a little more cool, or the daily comfort of an old friend enveloping their senses.

I highly recommend Ivy at Barneys San Francisco, or Rachel at Le Labo on Fillmore. Bottles are $160 for 1.7 oz and $240 for 3.4 oz.
